Install Data Access Studio to World®

Overview

These installation instructions show how to install Data Access Studio onto your World system.  Use these instructions to install the trial or purchased versions of Data Access Studio.  These instructions apply to the all World releases.

The basic steps for the install are as follows:

  1. Download DAS.exe from the website
  2. Run DAS.exe on an Windows workstation or server.

The DAS.exe installer modifies your World system as follows:

  1. Install Data Access Studio to Windows machine.  Installs the program executables to the Windows workstation or web server.
  2. New Table.  Creates a new table: FDASPROP in your World system (creates the table in the same library as the F0094).

The instructions below contain hyperlinks to Frequently Asked Installation Questions.

Step 1 - Make sure your Windows machine has IBM Client Access OLE/DB driver 10 or higher

To check:

  1. Go to: Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Source (ODBC)
  2. Click the "Drivers" tab
  3. Check that Client Access ODBC version is 10.00 or higher.

Step 2 - Download and run self-extracting executable

Step 3 - Install DAS to your Windows machine

  • On your Windows machine, run DAS.exe (or DASUpdate if this is an update).
  • Once you run DAS.exe (DASUpdate.exe) on your workstation, you will be prompted by the self-extracting setup dialog:

  • Select "Setup".

  • Click "Next"

  • Select OLEDB Provider IBMDA400.DataSource.1.  If you do not see this in the available list, then you need to cancel this install and then install Client Access OLEDB Provider 10.00 or higher.
  • Enter your AS400 Name and the library where to find the F0094 (Library list table).
  • Enter your World account information: user, password and library list and click Login.
  • If the login or connection fails, the install will pop up to text screens with error information.  Use this information to trouble shoot the connection problem.  If you cannot resolve the issue with the information provided, please send the error information to support@ReportsNow.com and we can assist you.
  • If the connection and login succeed you will see this a screen resembling:

  • Click "Next"

  • If this is your first time installing Data Access Studio, you will also see that the installer will create the FDASPROP table.
  • Click "Next"
  • The installer will install Data Access Studio and create FDASPROP if this is the first time installing.

Step 4 - Deploying DAS to your enterprise

Once you have installed DAS to the Windows machine, you may deploy Data Access Studio in one or more of the following ways:

  • Workstation - Simply run the DataAccessStudio shortcut placed on your desktop.
  • Citrix Server - Simply publish the DataAccessStudio shortcut placed on your desktop to the Citrix Server.
  • Install LAN Instructions
  • DAS Web Server

See: What are the DAS deployment options?  for more information about each deployment option.

Step 5 - Request License

The workstation install program creates a shortcut to DAS on your desktop.  For this step, make sure that you are connected to the Internet - the license request system sends an email to ReportsNow.

  • Double-click the DAS shortcut.
  • Sign into an environment.
  • DAS will present an license screen.  Click "Request License"
  • On the request license form fill out all fields.
  • Press "Submit" to send the request. (You may have to retry this step depending upon your connection)
  • Cancel out of Data Access Studio.

Dominion will generate a license and send it back to the email you entered on the license request form.

Step 6 - Run DAS

  • When you receive your license (.dasl file), run DAS
  • At the license screen, click "Import License".
  • Select the .dasl file that you received.
  • After the import, DAS will be activated for all licensed users.  Note that you only have to import a given license once.  For example, if you purchase a 10-user license, you import the 10-user license once.  From that point forward, DAS users will consume the licenses that you imported.
  • Note that if you exceed the number of purchased licenses, DAS will prompt the user with a dialog box that indicates that the number of user licenses has been exceeded.  This user will not be able to run DAS until the other licenses are released or until you purchase additional licenses.

Staying current

  • To keep up with new versions of DAS, simply download the latest DASUpdate.exe and perform step 2 above.
