Version History

4.8

  • Cross Tabular Calculation.  Perhaps the most significant enhancement, you can now display rows as columns.  This allows you to created side-by-side column comparisons of any row quantities.  For instance, you can compare yearly amounts to each other; or business units; or ledger types.  Whatever you want to compare.  For example:

In the example above, the data in columns: Budget, Actuals, 2004, and 2005 exist as rows in the Account Balances table (F0902).  With the CrossTab, calculation, you can show these row values as side-by-side column values.  This allows you to create any matrix you need that compares any set of rows to any set of columns.

  • Summaries show on group line.  Now the summary will show on the group line by default.  This makes for a more compact report and cleaner Excel export.  Added new Layout -> Grid Style option "Summary on Group Line", so that you can control which way you want to see your summaries.

Summaries before 4.8

Summaries in 4.8

  • Calculation editor enhancements.
    • When you type certain fields in the editor, a Google-like list of valid values will automatically popup and narrow your options visually.
    • Editor shows descriptions instead of their aliases.  This makes the calculation easier to read and enter.
    • Added "Show All Calculations" button.
    • When opening calculation editor, focus is placed on the add new calculation cell
    • When adding a new calculation, all parameters are shown as soon as you select the desired calculation.
    • Added calculation editor button to main toolbar.
    • Visual filters are case-insensitive for typing convenience.

  • New Filter Helpers.  When you right-click a column and select the "Filter" submenu, you will see helpers for the following types of queries:
    • List
    • Not in List
    • Begins with
    • Contains
    • Ends with
    • Range
    • Blank
    • Not Blank
  • New Period Amounts Calculation.  For the Account Balances table (F0902), period are stored as columns.  When you need to run a report for a specific period, you previously would need to edit the layout to show the period you want and hide the ones you don't.  The Period Amounts calculation overcomes this problem.  This calculation converts the fourteen period columns into one column that you can control by period begin and period end parameters.  Now, when you want to run your report for different periods, simply change the period parameters.  This eliminates the need to hide and show multiple period amount columns.
  • New Text Replacement Calculation.  This calculation lets you map text from one value to another.  In addition to specifying strings explicitly, you can also use filter syntax such as wildcards, lists, and ranges to define what to replace.  You can use this calculation, for instance, to control how group rows get rolled up into a summary.
  • Report Control Panel.  Previously a user needed to modify filter values and calculations to alter how a report ran.  With this enhancement, the designer can define key filter fields and parameters that a user can change without changing the report itself.  For instance, if you had a report that gave results for various periods, you could make the period a control panel variable.  Once set up, the end user need only change the period number to run the report for different periods.

Also, in the control Panel are new buttons to: "Run Full Query" and "Get Sample Data".

A designer can define any parameter he/she wants.  The designer can also select how to edit the parameter field with pre-defined editors.

4.7

  • Web Optimization for WAN.  Startup and data retrieval times are 3x faster for low-speed WAN connections.
  • Filter helpers.  Right-click column to easily enter filters for: list of values, ranges, blanks, not-blank, and today's date.
  • Improved WebSecurity setup.  Now run DASWebsecurity.exe to setup a workstation to run DAS.  Execution is automatic and does not require a user to click through setup screen.
  • Works with Firefox and other client browser.  When you run DASWeb in other browsers, save the DASWeb to a local download location and run from there.
  • Group display styles: Category and value, value, indexed value.  Previously, DAS only allowed one format for showing group values: Column:Group value.  Now when you right-click the group row, you can set two new styles: value-only and indexed value.  Indexed value is useful for showing month descriptions in the month order instead of alphabetic order.
  • Better license request system.  Previously DAS attempted to send license request information automatically.  With various firewalls, this system sometimes failed.  The new system gives the user test to cut and paste to email for the license request.
  • Works with World (still in beta).  This version runs on World software.  You can use all of the power of Data Access Studio in World.

4.6.1

  • Faster Web performance for Associated Descriptions and Table Lookups.  This version has block lookups and better caching to make Associate Description and Table lookups much faster over the web.
  • 8.12 fix for issue where DAS may open default layout with columns sorted by Alias name.  For 8.12 and DAS 4.5+, DAS could open the default layout with the columns sorted by alias name.  This release fixes that issue.
  • New DASWeb.exe web execution point.  You can now publish DASWeb.exe on web pages.  DASWeb will automatically use IE to cache the DAS assemblies.  DASWeb is light <64K and prevents accidental double-launching.  This results in more convenience and better performance when running DAS over the web.
  • Summarize item on column menu.  Now you can summarize by right-clicking a column in a grouped layout a selecting Summarize and the type of summary you want (e.g. Sum, Min, Max, etc.).  This gives you another way to add summaries--versus the previous way of  instead of finding the summary line in the grid and then right-clicking for the summary menu.
  • Hide/Show columns form has Hide All and Show All buttons in the toolbar.  Previously, you could hide and show all columns by right-clicking in the Hide/Show columns grid and selecting "check all" or "uncheck all".  Now you can do the same thing with one button press on the displayed toolbar.

4.6

  • Faster performance over low-bandwidth WAN.  After first time load, DAS will initialize 3 times faster than before.  DAS is much faster during online processing as well over a low-bandwidth connection.   Faster Associated Descriptions and Table Lookups over WAN.
  • 8.12 compatibility.  Workaround for machine master spec issue in 8.12.  Needed to get correct deployment server information.
  • New Chart of Accounts calculation.  For any view with the chart of Accounts Table (F0901), you can now apply the "Group Accounts" calculation to convert the grid into a chart of accounts.  From here you can create Financial reports such as Balance Sheets and P&Ls for companies, business units, regions, etc.  You can drill down and up with the inline level of detail control.
  • Increased detection of suggested joins.  DAS now detects more types of table joins in the suggested joins tab:  for example General Ledger (F0911) to Accounts Payable(F0411) join.
  • Visual Assist auto-size.  When you click a filter box that has a visual assist, DAS automatically expands the box while you type in the filter.  When you are finished typing the box returns to its original size.  This is a convenience feature.
  • New Month Description calculation.  Now you can get the month description from a date field instead of just the month number.
  • New security option to control sort at database.  If you need to ensure that sorts only occur on the DAS client for system database performance, now you can force the sort to occur on the client.

4.5

  • Expanded export capability.  Now you can export your grid data to more output formats: Excel, HTML, PDF, TIFF, TSV, XML.  PDF generator requires no additional software!  DAS now provides quick options to export all data or selected grid data.  DAS also lets you set default export parameters such as: destination directory, auto-open and auto-name.
  • Auto-convert date filters.  Now when you save a layout with a date filter, another user with a different date format can still run your report.  DAS will automatically convert the date filter to the correct format on-the-fly.
  • Sort at database option.  Because DAS can sort at the grid level and because many queries are ad hoc, sorting at the grid can provide significant performance benefits.  DAS now defaults to sort at grid.  This makes sorting and grouping happen much faster.  If you need to sort at the database, check the grid style option to sort at database.
  • Web-based help.  All helps are now Web-based htm.  This simplifies web and thin client deployment of the help system.
  • DASADMIN can see all layouts and reports.  Now when you sign in as DASADMIN, you have access to all user reports and layouts.  This make administration easier for the case where you need to manage reports and layouts of say a contractor who is no longer working for you.
  • Save Header and footer with layout.  Now you can design the header and footer of your layout.  When you save the layout, your header/footer information is saved with the layout.
  • Save filters with layout is now the default save.  When you save a layout, the default action now is to save the filter values.  Before, you had to check the "Save filters" box first.

4.3.2

  • Sort capability on Table Lookup Calculation.  Now you can specify your own sort criteria independent from the index that you choose for your table lookup.
  • Auto-purge audit Trail.  Now you can have DAS automatically purge audit records that are older than a specified number of days.
  • Improved Associated Description coverage.

4.3.1

  • 8.12 support.  Data Access Studio now runs on 8.12.
  • Audit Trail.  Now you can have DAS record all user access to show who is accessing what tables.  Provides performance information on count, select, load, and calculation times.
  • Date/Time calc now exports with correct format to Excel.
  • Improved startup performance.

4.3

  • Dynamic business views.  Now you can create EnterpriseOne business views on-the-fly.  Simply define your tables, joins and columns and you are ready to go!  No need for OMW or package builds.  Create integrity reports that show missing details without headers or headers without details.  Easily change the join on-the-fly -- add tables, columns or change the join condition.
  • Associated Description now works on Table Lookup columns.  Now you can add associated descriptions to the columns that you bring back with table lookups.
  • Date/Time calc now exports with correct format to Excel.
  • Improved HTTP WAN support.  Added firewall name and automatic connection capabilities when running DAS in HTTP WAN.
  • Added new option to override Auto-uppercase.  DAS automatically uppercases a column filter based on the Data Dictionary definition.  Now a user may override auto-uppercasing on a per-layout basis.  Useful when one needs to find mixed case values in an uppercase-only field.

4.2

  • String comparison calculation.  Now you can compare two string values and see the result in the calculated column.  You can then filter on the resulting column to show strings that are equal, not equal, or less than or greater to each other.
  • Environment name displayed in the title bar.  The DAS Title bar now shows in which environment you are working.
  • Expanded Associated Descriptions.  Now you can get the associated descriptions for many more columns.  Right-click the column and select Calculations->Quick->EnterpriseOne->Associated Description
  • Account Category calculation.  For any table or business view that has OBJ and SUB columns, you can now retrieve the AAI account category for the account.  For instance, this will let you know if an account is an Asset, Expense, Revenue, etc.  You can then group by the account category to create financial reports such as Profit and Loss statements.
  • Filter from Excel.  Now you can define cells in Excel that will serve as data filters into DAS.  This feature gives you reports a "Processing Option" look.
  • Language Column Caption.  Now the Description caption for the column will show the description in the user's preferred language.

  • Data Access Studio supports the ability to host itself on a central server. This DAS Server can respond to client requests to run Data Access Studio. For each client request, the DAS server creates a connection to the OneWorld system based on the client’s login credentials. Once connected to OneWorld, the DAS Server launches Data Access Studio in a secured environment on the client workstation. Once Data Access Studio runs on the client workstation, all of its user-interface capabilities are available to the user.

This mode of operation has the following benefits to an organization:

    • Client machines do not require a Fat Client Install
    • Client machines get to use full capabilities of Data Access Studio
    • DAS Server is the only place where you need to update software

    Architecture overview (Word Document)
